Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Seth McFarlane, Really?

The word is out on the Vulture that Seth McFarlane is set to reboot Carl Sagan’s Cosmos. Seth McFarlane and Cosmos, really? The man behind Family Guy is going to reboot Carl Sagan and plant Neil deGrasse Tyson as the host for credibility. I like Tyson as a host. He has a very warm, intelligent delivery much like Sagan. However, I am suspicious because it’s McFarlane and FOX we are talking about. Will the science in the program become compromised by the comedian’s touch and FOX’s oversight. I worry. I worry for the direction of Science. Also, why is Fox interested in Cosmos? Carl Sagan’s Cosmos covered a wide range of scientific subjects including the origin of life and a perspective of our place in the universe. I wonder what sort of spin is going to be placed on it.

I think no matter the television network (with exception to PBS), I would be really suspicious of their intention of rebooting Carl Sagan’s Cosmos. I worry about McFarlane lampooning Cosmos rather really provided a forum for thought about the inner workings of life and the universe within a scientific context.

Thanks to The Science Foundation, you can watch Cosmos on Youtube.
