Lots going on in pop culture this week:

  • This week we lost television icon Sherman Helmsley. He’s famous for his role of George Jefferson on the show The Jeffersons. The Jeffersons was a spin-off of All In The Family, starring Carroll O’Connor. The first spin-off was Maude, starring the late Bea Arthur, famous for her role as Dorothy on The Golden Girls.
  • Author and Columnist Jonah Lehrer confessed to making up quotes, etc from Bob Dylan for his book Imagine. This has led to his resignation from his position at The New Yorker, and publishers have ceased all distribution/printing of the book.
  • Author Maevy Binchy has passed away.
  • Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog will air on The CW in October 9th from 9pm – 10pm.
  • Peter Jackson got the go ahead to turn The Hobbit into a trilogy. Can we feel the ire of fans everywhere? two more years to see all of the film! GRR!
  • If your Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray has sound problems, you can get it replaced.
  • Simon and Martina, awesome Canadians living S. Korea who blog about all things Kpop and S. Korea, added an adorable addition to their family – move over Spudgy and welcome their kitten, Scottish Fold Dr. Meemersworth. (LINK)
  • Vince Vaughan & the writer of Raising Hope are in the works to reboot The Brady Bunch for CBS. Are we having a 70s TV reboot?
  • He-Man and The Masters of the Universe is in the works to be rebooted by John Chu, G.I.Joe: Retaliation
  • UK Series Misfits – Season One is on DVD for sale in the U.S. What happens when a group of delinquent teens get superpowers?
  • Louie C.K’s show Louie has been renewed for a 4th season while AMC has axed The Killing.
  • Actress Lupe Ontiveros has passed away. She played the housekeeper in The Goonies. She was also in the movie Selena. She passed away due to Liver Cancer.
  • Another prolific and controversial writer has left us today – Gore Vidal: American author, playwright, essayist, screenwriter, and political activist.
